Kautex Maschinenbau convierte equipos posteriores en un componente integral
Gracias a sus múltiples e innovadores desarrollos nuevos, este fabricante de máquinas de moldeo por soplado sigue en continuo crecimiento. Kautex Maschinenbau cerró el año fiscal 2016 con un récord de ventas. Este éxito se debe, en palabras del socio director Andreas Lichtenauer, a una exitosa política de modelos, la gran apuesta por la innovación de la empresa y a unas máquinas de moldeo por soplado nuevas y potentes para el segmento del envasado: «Desde que lanzamos hace tres años nuestra serie KBB totalmente eléctrica, sigue estando muy demandada». Precisamente para poder cumplir con esta creciente demanda , la empresa está ampliando ahora su fábrica central de Bonn. En una nave de montaje nueva, dotada de una superficie de 3900 m², está previsto que se monten principalmente máquinas KBB y KSB a partir del último trimestre de 2017. Además, también se crearán 80 puestos de trabajo y oficinas nuevas.
La novedosa solución para integrar equipos posteriores mediante módulos denominados IntelliGate también ha despertado gran interés. «Esto nos permitirá vincular digitalmente nuestras máquinas siguiendo la enorme tendencia de la industria 4.0 para poder ampliarlas y convertirlas en instalaciones de fabricación integrales», añade Lichtenauer.
Connext, la interfaz inteligente
Una parte fundamental del sistema de integración IntelliGate es la interfaz de nuevo desarrollo Connext. Esta permite integrar procesos posteriores en las máquinas, como por ejemplo los de comprobación de la calidad. Los expertos de Kautex pueden adaptar módulos adicionales a máquinas de la serie KBB y vincularlos mediante conexión plug and play a través de interfaces Connext. De esta manera, los clientes de Kautex reciben un proceso de producción completo e integrado, todo ello del mismo fabricante.
Con Connext la empresa de Bonn ha conseguido una solución estándar que permite garantizar no solo que todos los módulos conectados a la máquina dispongan de alimentación de aire comprimido y tensión, sino que sobre todo se produzca el intercambio de datos estandarizado. Esto permite una reacción flexible si se producen cambios en el desarrollo de la producción, mediante el cambio de módulos en máquinas Kautex ya existentes, por ejemplo. También evita la necesidad de tomas de corriente o conexiones de aire comprimido adicionales. Achim Trübner, director del equipo de desarrollo de software R&D, lo explica así: «Una máquina Kautex con interfaz Connext no solo es capaz de reconocer cada módulo sino también la secuencia, incluso si se modificara el orden».
Los módulos IntelliGate son algo más que un añadido cosmético al diseño moderno de máquinas y eso es algo que sabe bien el director de marketing Christian Kirchbaumer: «No hemos adaptado cada unidad de equipos posteriores al diseño de nuestras máquinas para que parezcan más bonitas, sino para que el valor añadido sea visible. Los módulos conectados por interfaz Connext ahorran tiempo y aumentan el rendimiento. Con ello, ofrecemos una ventaja real frente a la competencia».

Kautex Maschinenbau en la feria Interpac: Producción de máximo rendimiento con máquinas totalmente automáticas y aplicaciones industriales 4.0
Un año más, la industria internacional de envases vuelve a reunirse en la feria Interpack de Dusseldorf para informarse acerca de posibilidades eficientes para la fabricación de envases. Al igual que en años anteriores, Kautex Maschinenbau también estará representada en ella, del 4 al 10 de mayo, con un puesto en el pabellón 13. Además de sus empaquetadoras totalmente eléctricas de la serie KBB, esta empresa especializada en moldeo por soplado de extrusión también presentará propuestas de soluciones con las que los fabricantes de botellas, bidones y otros envases de plástico, podrán establecer nuevas pautas en su producción. Para conseguirlo no solo se requieren sistemas que ahorren materiales y sistemas de cambio rápido que permitan avanzar en la fabricación, sino también contar con ofertas de servicios que logren reducir los tiempos de entrada en el mercado. Con esta finalidad, hemos desarrollado un sistema de integración nuevo llamado IntelliGate que permite aumentar la eficiencia de los procesos en las máquinas. Mediante la aplicación industrial 4.0, las máquinas de Kautex configuran un sistema cerrado de producción de máximo rendimiento, todo ello garantizado con la acostumbrada gran calidad de procesos de la empresa.
IntelliGate, el sistema modular inteligente
La parte fundamental de este sistema integrado son unos módulos que van unidos a la interfaz de usuario de nuevo desarrollo Connext. ‘‘Esto permite que procesos de transformación posteriores, como por ejemplo los de comprobación de la calidad, formen parte integral y principal de la máquina’’, explica Christian Kirchbaumer, Director de comunicación y marketing de Kautex Maschinenbau. Los técnicos de la empresa pueden adaptar módulos sueltos a máquinas de moldeo por soplado KBB y vincularlos mediante conexión o cambiarlos.
Mayor eficiencia con máquinas completamente eléctricas y formación virtual
Desde su lanzamiento hace ahora tres años, la serie totalmente automatizada KBB ha tenido una gran acogida y se caracteriza por ser compacta, de fácil manejo, bajo consumo energético y por contar con avanzados sistemas de cambio rápido. Así, los cambios de productos pueden ejecutarse de forma rápida y eficiente, por ejemplo mediante sus cabezales de extrusión de última tecnología que permiten cambiar el color en el menor tiempo posible. Desde hace poco, la serie se ha ampliado a dos versiones para fabricar bidones por moldeo de soplado.
Otro de los puntos álgidos que podrá disfrutar en el puesto ferial de Kautex es la presentación en directo de la nueva generación de máquinas virtuales. Con estas herramientas es posible simular en tiempo real los procesos de producción de diferentes tipos de máquinas y casos de aplicación y además recibir formación.

Kautex Maschinenbau – New KCC machine model at Chinaplas 2017
After Kautex Maschinenbau began gradually introducing the third generation of its successful KCC production series last year with the KCC20 MK3, a further step follows this year with the KCC10 MK3. The blow molding machine producer will be presenting this and many other innovations at Chinaplas 2017, which on this occasion will take place in Guangzhou from May 16th – 19th. “Since the introduction of the MK3 models, we have worked continuously on the new machine programme. Several KCC20 MK3s have been delivered in the meantime and with the new KCC10, we are proceeding with the expansion of the programme", stated Geoffrey Chan, who, as Executive Vice-President of Shunde Kautex, has joined the local management team in January 2017.
Virtual machine and shuttle service to the shunde plant
Nor would the Kautex exhibition stand be complete without the new generation of virtual machines. With this considerably further-enhanced tool, production processes for various types of machine and application scenarios are simulated and practiced in real time. The virtual machine which is being exhibited will also from now on form part of the client training facilities at the Shunde site. Because Chinaplas is taking place in Guangzhou this year, Kautex will be providing a shuttle service from the trade exhibition to the nearby Kautex plant in Shunde. Various extrusion blow-molders from KCC to KBB can be viewed there at various stages of final assembly, with informative talks from many different experts.
Shunde Kautex has been manufacturing the all-electric KBB production series for the Chinese and South-Asian market since 2016 in a joint development programme with the German factory in Bonn. Machines of this type have set themselves apart with their ease of handling, low energy consumption and quick-change systems. A special feature of the KBB production series is the Intelligate integration system presented for the first time at the K 2016 trade fair. With this efficiency-enhancing industry 4.0 application, Kautex machines can be developed into a self-contained manufacturing plant.

Kautex Maschinenbau expands its management team in China
Kautex Maschinenbau has strengthened its international management team. The company recently welcomed the experienced plastics specialist and sales professional Geoffrey Chan (46) and appointed him as the Executive Vice President of its Chinese subsidiary Shunde Kautex Plastics Technology Co., Ltd. at the start of January 2017. Geoffrey Chan boasts more than 25 years of experience in the plastics industry and was most recently responsible for two Chinese locations of the company KHS China as its Managing Director.
Focusing on the customer

Shunde Kautex extends its range of products and services
Shunde Kautex, located in the Guangdong region in southern China, is a 100% subsidiary of the company Kautex Maschinenbau GmbH and was founded in 1995. It currently employs 130 members of staff. Following on from the presentation of a third-generation machine in the KCC series by Kautex Maschinenbau for the first time at the Chinaplas 2016 trade show, the Shunde factory is now converting its production activities from the second to the third generation of machines. Since 2016, the final assembly and commissioning of machines from the all-electric KBB series has also been made in Shunde for the Chinese and Southeast Asian market in close cooperation with our main plant in Bonn, Germany . Kautex Maschinenbau expanding Bonn HQ
Kautex Maschinenbau is continuing to drive forward with its growth plans. In order to meet rising demand for its recently developed, all-electric packaging machines and compact suction blow molding machines, the company is expanding and modernizing its Bonn production location. From Q3 2017, the new 5,000 m2 assembly hall will mostly be dedicated to assembling and testing KBB-series packaging machines and KSB-series suction blow molding machines.
Along with this, around 80 modern office workplaces are also being built. The ground breaking ceremony took place on February 15th in the presence of members of staff, Bonn’s mayor Ashok Sridharan and the district mayor Guido Déus.
Kautex CEO Dr. Olaf Weiland hopes that the plant expansion will make production even more efficient and further reduce lead times for customers: “As well as improving the long-term performance and efficiency of our machines, we want to make the same improvements to our production.”
Ideal set-up of Bonn location
Thanks to a successful model lineup and positive market development, the specialist in extrusion blow molding machines finished fiscal 2016 on a high with record sales of EUR 122 million. Weiland sees the sector heading in a positive direction, hence the focus on the company’s Bonn HQ. “Bonn is located in the heart of one of the world’s most important centers for plastics manufacturing. The high density of universities and the presence of specialist research institutes offer excellent development opportunities for our innovation-driven sector,” comments Weiland on the city where the company was founded over 80 years ago. Kautex Maschinenbau – Continued strong growth and extended service offering in Russia
Kautex Maschinenbau is continuing its strong growth thanks to innovative new developments and finished 2016 on a high with record sales. Managing Partner Andreas Lichtenauer puts this success down to a proactive service policy, a fast ongoing decentralization and with this a better understanding of customer requirements. The leading manufacturer of extrusion blow molding machines launched three new machine designs during 2016.
The company is now in the process of expanding its Bonn production location to meet rising demand. From Q3 2017, a new 3,900 m2 assembly hall will primarily be dedicated to assembling KBB packaging machines and KSB suction blow molding machines. The company is also pressing ahead with the localisation of its services. Kautex Maschinenbau reports on a positive trade fair experience
>Bonn – Kautex Maschinenbau is more than satisfied as they look back at this year’s K trade fair in Düsseldorf. Under the slogan “Setting benchmarks for high production performance”, the leading manufacturer for extrusion blow molding machines presented its latest machine technologies and services at a stand measuring around 450 sqm. “In places, our stand was so crowded that it was barely possible to get through,” says Managing Partner Andreas Lichtenauer. “The live presentations of the all-electric jerrycan machine, our Industry 4.0 application, Virtual Machine, and new example applications from the field of Specialities attracted particular interest.”

The all-electric KBB400 exhibited in Düsseldorf to manufacture stackable jerrycans was used numerous times a day on all eight trade fair days and impressed the trade visitors not only with its speed and efficiency, but also with the ability for networking in terms of the trade fair megatheme “Industry 4.0”. The KBB400 boasts an integrated quality control system for the manufactured products, the data for which, as for all other ‘IntelliGate‘ downstream modules, can be exchanged and used to optimize the running processes using the newly developed interface ‘Connext’.
New areas of application and Open House
Selected example products from the business area Specialities, which were intended to offer trade visitors suggestions of further extrusion blow molding applications, generated a great deal of conversation at the trade fair stand. The range extends from kayaks and outdoor sheds to sports shoe soles, traffic signs and new forms of wound pressure vessels. Alongside the trade fair, Kautex this year once again opened its doors to visitors at its main factory nearby. Interested parties were taken directly to Bonn via shuttle bus several times a day to view blow molding machines for applications from the fields of Automotive, Packaging and Specialities.

Agri Industrial continues to rely on Kautex Maschinenbau
Bonn/Fairfield – Agri Industrial is further expanding its long-standing partnership with Kautex Maschinenbau. The American company is expanding its multi-layer fuel tank production capacity with having placed an order for another KBSmart120, which is expected to be production-ready in Q4 2017.
Barrier coating also for small fuel containers
The Kautex machines in the KBSmart range are specially designed for the production of small plastic fuel containers up to 40 liters. With the aid of a six-layer die head, the plastic containers manufactured on it in the co-extrusion process can be fitted with an EVOH barrier coating, as has been used in the global automobile industry for many years. Stricter legal requirements by the Californian emission protection agency CARB have also made this procedure necessary for non-automobile applications for the turf equipment and powersports industries.
Founded in 1978, Agri Industrial Plastics Co. is now among the leading manufacturers of large-format plastic parts. A total of 26 extrusion blow molding machines are currently in operation at the Fairfield, Iowa facility which measures 30,000 square meters (340,000 square feet), including seven CoEx models from Kautex Maschinenbau. Almost exclusively, Agri uses blow molding machines from the Bonn-based company.

New KBB jerrycan machines for K 2016
At this year‘s K-show in Düsseldorf (Germany), the leading manufacturer of extrusion blow molding machines can be found at its usual 430 m2 exhibition space in hall 14, stand A16/18.
Never before in its 80-plus-year history has Kautex unveiled so many new machines in a single year. Following the successful presentation of the new KCC MK3 series at this year’s Chinaplas as well as the launch of new suction blow molding machines and drum machines, Kautex Maschinenbau will present its new KBB jerrycan machines at the upcoming K 2016.
Expansion of the all-electric KBB series
The new KBB200 and KBB400 models were specially developed for the manufacture of stackable jerrycans. The machine at K 2016 will be equipped with a Kautex three-layer head for a cost-efficient ReCo process. Like the KBB bottle machines presented at K 2013, the all-electric jerrycan versions are setting new benchmarks when it comes to speed and efficiency.
There is an additional highlight in the form of new, networked post-production modules so that downstream equipment can become an integral part of the Kautex machine in keeping with the “smart factory” trend.
New generation of virtual machines
Following the huge success of its introduction of virtual machines, Kautex Maschinenbau is now launching a second generation, this time with a modular concept. The new, considerably more flexible virtual machines are able to work with a variety of control systems. Virtual machines eliminate the need for training on actual machines as well as potential risks of damage. In addition, costs related to material consumption will no longer be incurred.
Open House during the trade fair
During the 2016 edition of the K event, Kautex Maschinenbau will once again be opening its doors to visitors at its nearby parent plant. Interested visitors will be shuttled directly to Bonn for a look at the blow molding machines for applications in the automotive, packaging and specialities segments.

Toray Industries does research with 3D blow molding machine by Kautex Maschinenbau
Heat-resistant PPS air ducts for Japanese market / Test of new applications in Toray technical center
Kautex Maschinenbau provides the Japanese corporation Toray Industries an extrusion blow molding machine type KBS20 for research and development purposes. Toray's own technical center in the factory in Nagoya is using the new Kautex machine to test the production of different 3D pipes using the so-called suction blow process. The focus here lies on the development of especially heat-resistant air ducts made from polyphenylene sulphide PPS.
A development partnership
Jürgen Moitzheim, Sales Director at Kautex Maschinenbau, is looking forward to working with the Japanese resins manufacturer. "The latest developments in combustion engines are once again creating challenges for automotive industry suppliers. This is especially true for the interplay between materials and engine technology. For this reason we like to work very closely together with our customers on the development of new solutions." This also convinced Toshiteru Nishijama, Manager for Automotive Products Business, Resins Global Marketing Dept. at Toray: "We were looking for a provider who not only produces good machines, offers high process reliability and good service, but who will also support us with their know-how in the R&D field. It became clear quite quickly that we would use a Kautex suction blow molding machine."

A current development trend in the automotive industry is the downsizing of car engines while at the same time increasing performance. In order to achieve this, turbochargers are installed which need especially heat-resistant ducts. Toray achieved very good results here with polyphenylene sulphide PPS. This plastic distinguishes itself with especially high and durable heat-resistance up to 220 degrees Celsius. Kautex machines have been able to process this material without problems for many years.
Low-waste blow molding
Since 1999, it has been possible to produce 3D molded parts on Kautex machine type KBS which have numerous applications for pipes and tubes in the car industry. They are used as fuel filling pipes, intake air ducts, or cooling air ducts in modern combustion engines. 3D blow molding is an especially low-waste production method. In contrast to the conventional method, the parisons are molded into functional components without welds.
Further advantages arise in the manufacture of 3D ducts when using the suction blow molding method. Here, the parison is drawn into the elongated cavity of a blow mold before the actual blow molding of the part. This allows the use of significantly simpler and consequently cheaper blow molding tools.

Kautex Maschinenbau opens new customer service center in Berlin
Bonn/Berlin - Kautex Maschinenbau has opened a new customer service center in Kleinmachnow near Berlin. With around 500 m2 of space for sales, service, workshops and a spare parts warehouse, the leading manufacturer of extrusion blow molding machines is now also present in the east of Germany. The investment in the new site is a further step as part of the service strategy, by which Kautex continues to improve its proximity to its customers and further expand its range of services and consulting products.
Service, training, retrofitting
“Our customers benefit from the new site thanks to faster reaction times, an extended range of customer service offerings and intensive personal consulting on site,” says Marco Stühmeier, who is responsible for managing the new customer service center. Stühmeier was previously the production manager for extrusion blow molding machines at Uniloy Milacron Germany / B&W and has extensive experience in Berlin. Thilo Schmidt, head of global service at Kautex Maschinenbau, is delighted about the opening of the new customer center. “The Berlin site is a further strategic step to build on and expand our customer base and the service business for packaging machines,” says Schmidt and adds: “In Berlin, we offer customer training, extensive service relating to machine maintenance and consulting on modernizing machines through retrofitting – not only for Kautex machines.”
Five-person expert team
The new, five-person team at the customer center consists of experts from the fields of spare parts sales, field service, start-up and machinery sales. Besides Marco Stühmeier, Karola Hepfner, who joined Kautex Maschinenbau as a sales manager for the packaging department at the beginning of the year, also possesses extensive experience in the field of extrusion blow molding.
Individual employees at the new Kautex site have up to 30 years’ experience with blow molding machines for the packaging sector. The range of services and consulting is not limited to Kautex machines, but also comprises extrusion blow molding systems from other manufacturers and virtually forgotten companies such as Fischer W-Müller, Voith and SIG-Blowtec. The new customer center is therefore not only the first port of call when it comes to service for Kautex customers, but also for anyone who has packaging machines from other manufacturers.

Third generation of KCC machines goes into production
Kautex Maschinenbau at Chinaplas 2016
At this year’s Chinaplas, which will be held in Shanghai from 25 to 28 April 2016, Kautex Maschinenbau will present a new model in its successful KCC series of extrusion blow molding machines. This is the third generation of the KCC series, which has been produced in Shunde, China, since 1997.
New features, new design
The new blow molding machine model, which was announced at the Open House event in October last year, represents a complete relaunch of the KCC series. As well as a number of new and revised technical features, the machine has also been completely re-designed, to visually blend in with the look of new Kautex machines.
With its compact form, the new KCC generation takes up less floor space in the production hall. Better accessibility not only makes the blow molding machine easier to service, but also speeds change over times. Molds can now also be changed from the side, for example, and products are discharged from the rear of the machine. A greater standardization of modules and components has reduced the investment costs of the new machine and shortened future delivery times.
Gradual introduction of the new machine
Mark Lueddecke, Vice President of Kautex Maschinenbau in Shunde, plans to introduce the new generation of machines to the market on a gradual basis until the switch-over of the entire KCC range has been completed. “We offer KCC machines for all kinds of consumer and industrial packaging applications as well as for the automotive sector. This high degree of flexibility is precisely why this machine series has continued its success for almost twenty years.”
New KSB suction blow molding machine
Kautex Maschinenbau will also allow first insights in its new KSB suction blow molding machine at Chinaplas. This brand new machine type was specially designed for low-flash production of 3D molded parts.
Global demand for plastic ducts for the automotive sector is rising all the time, ever since the use of special materials such as PA6.6 or PPS has enabled the production of highly heat-resistant exhaust ducts.
A modern operating concept with Kautex BC5 controller makes the new KSB machines easy to operate. In addition, the new suction blow molding machine takes up almost 50% less space than previous equipment, thus reducing investment costs.
With continuously increasing exhibitor and visitor numbers, Chinaplas has become the second largest trade fair for plastics next to the K-show in Germany. Karola Hepfner is appointed as Packaging Sales Manager
Karola Hepfner has been supporting the sales activities of Kautex Maschinenbau GmbH as its Packaging Sales Manager since 1st January 2016. From her office at the company's Berlin location, she will continue to progress the expansion of its packaging division and to supervise the German and French markets along with selected key accounts and projects.
An expert in international markets
Ms Hepfner boasts more than 20 years of sales experience in the field of blow moulding technology, primarily in the American, English and French markets, and has also been responsible for establishing new markets such as those in Indonesia and Vietnam. Before joining Kautex, she last worked as the Sales Specialist for Shuttle Machinery at Uniloy Milacron B&W.

Open House for the 80th anniversary
Customers from around the world came to Bonn / Kautex Maschinenbau looks forward with confidence and back with pride / Exhibition about eight decades of company history
Bonn – Around 150 customers from 30 countries once again travelled from around the world to attend this year’s Open House at the Kautex Maschinenbau headquarters in Bonn. Over the course of two days, the manufacturer of extrusion blow molding machines presented many new developments, techniques and trends from the business fields of packaging, automotive and special applications.
Things kicked off on the first day with topics for the packaging industry. In expert talks given by internal and external speakers, topics presented included developments on a new electric canister machine and the possibilities offered by the microcellular foaming technique. The following day covered special applications and topics from the automotive sector. Kautex experts provided information about the manufacture of composite pressure vessels and the development of a new suction blow molding machine for manufacturing 3D-shaped engine parts.
This year, Kautex Maschinenbau not only looked to the future but also to the past. To mark the 80th anniversary of the Kautex brand, a company chronicle was created and artefacts and milestones from company history were brought together to form an exhibition. This included the world’s first commercially used blow molding machine from 1949, which is still fully functional today. To prove this, this vintage technology was used to produce a retro-style bottle from the 1950s for the international visitors.
Machines in operation
In addition to the talks, visitors who had travelled from all over Europe, Africa, Asia and the US were able to experience a total of 23 machines in production use. The first virtual machine, developed by Kautex for training purposes, was presented to the visitors.

A new lease of life for existing machinery
Bonn/Shunde, China - Kautex Maschinenbau GmbH’s aim is to provide customers with the most comprehensive service support in the blow molding industry, along with the most extensive local service network around the world. So at this year’s Chinaplas, alongside presentations of new technical developments, the company will be turning the spotlight on its service products. Kautex Maschinenbau will be in Guangzhou at the world’s second largest plastics and rubber trade fair from 20th to 23rd May, where it will be presenting its state-of-the-art blow molding machinery technology and its retrofitting program for used machinery.
Retrofitting for the most up-to-date processes
Some 25 percent of Kautex Maschinenbau's turnover is generated by its extensive range of servicing programs, including retrofitting. “This is a key market segment”, says Managing Partner Andreas Lichtenauer, “because our machines also have such an excellent reputation in the second-hand market.” The company’s retrofitting program provides customers with a cost-effective way of adapting their existing Kautex machines to meet the very latest standards, so that key aspects such as productivity, operator comfort, flexibility and safety continue to be maintained.
Since last year, it has been possible for companies to have their used Kautex machines modernized directly in the Shunde plant. This year will see the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Shunde Kautex, which in 1995 became the very first German joint venture to be set up in the southern region of Guangdong.
Kautex at Chinaplas 2015
At the Chinaplas trade fair this year, Kautex Maschinenbau will be showing a KB25 suction blow molding machine that has been modernized at the Shunde plant. The machine, which is used for manufacturing air ducts, has been fitted with a 1.8 liter high-temperature accumulator head and a low-wear E60 extruder. It has also been equipped with a full suction blow molding unit. “We’ve noticed a growing demand for suction blow molding machinery in Asia”, explains Andreas Lichtenauer. “This kind of machinery has traditionally been produced at our plant in Bonn. Currently we are checking if we can fulfill those demands for modern suction blow molding machinery directly from our production plant in Shunde.”

The all-electric KBB machines have short cycle times and low energy costs, combining resource-saving with top performance. Another benefit of this new range is that they come with quick change systems for fast product changeovers and reduced downtime. These electric machines also meet all the latest hygiene requirements for cosmetic and food products.
The Italian company Meccanoplastica srl (represented by Kautex’s US office) will also be exhibiting on the stand. This medium-sized, Florence-based company will be presenting its portfolio of all-electrical injection and stretch blow molding machinery and showing one of its Jet120 machines in action. Bonn/Dusseldorf - At the K 2007 show, Kautex Maschinenbau announced that it would continue to focus on consumer packaging. Six years later, the result of this project is now presented at the K 2013. With the new, all-electric KBB series, the company presents a pioneering machine concept that sets new standards in the packaging segment.
Industry 4.0 with BC Connect
But the development of new machine models is not the only reason why the leading manufacturer of blow molding machines is a trend-setter in the industry. Kautex Maschinebau also introduces real innovations in the areas of Industry 4.0 and service to visitors at the international trade show. The best example of this is the remote monitoring tool BC Connect. This is web-based software that allows processors to conveniently access their blow molding machines via the Internet. Current performance data can be called up from anywhere in the world at any time via desktop, tablet PC or smartphone.
Kautex Maschinenbau presents another highlight of the fair as well as genuine progress in training and education with its newly developed virtual machines. These are simulations in which the control and operating interfaces correspond to the real machine. All triggered processes and production runs are displayed in a simulation program. KBB series offers more performance with less energy consumption/New Kautex machines provide extensive improvements in efficiency
Bonn – Kautex Maschinenbau sets new standards in the manufacture of consumer packaging with a pioneering machine concept. The all-electric KBB series offers maximum freedom in configuration, through which the processor can react flexibly to the ever faster changing demands of the market. Performance and energy consumption have also been optimized.
Less energy, more power
"Our new generation of machines achieves its high performance levels through less downtime," explains Dietmar Michels, Product Manager at Kautex Maschinenbau. "We significantly accelerated transport movements in the machine as well as the opening and closing movement of the mold, reducing the traversing time for 770 mm from the head to the calibration position to only 0.6 seconds." The cooling phase has also been shortened. Compared to conventional production systems, the new machine concept achieves a reduction of 25 percent in the dry cycle time.
Usually, higher performance requires even higher energy consumption. This is exactly the opposite for machines of the KBB series: "By using lighter materials, we have significantly reduced the moving mass. In this way, we were able to increase not only the performance, but also to reduce the required drive power," says Dietmar Michels. There is also a system for recovering energy where the excess braking energy is fed back into the machine or the processor’s network via an intermediate circuit.
A procedure for changing molds, exclusive to Kautex Maschinenbau, allows for further efficiency improvements in the production process. A change of mold can be performed by two persons in less than 15 minutes. An automatic lubrication system provides for an additional reduction of downtime by reducing maintenance. Last but not least, all necessary adjustments for optimizing material and the machine settings can be performed during operation. Consequently, the machine does not need to be stopped, for example, to adjust the closing or calibration forces. This simplifies handling and saves time.
Altogether, the four models of the KBB series offer feed strokes from 400 to 1,000 millimeters and closing forces from 10 to 40 tons, so that a wide spectrum of production possibilities is covered. capiton AG is the latest shareholder in the Kautex Group. With this new shareholding, the Berlin-based investors are taking over from former shareholders Steadfast Capital. In March 2007 Steadfast Capital joined together with five members of the management team to buy out 100 percent of the shares held by the Munich-based investment firm Adcuram AG. The latest change of shareholders was approved by Germany's Federal Cartel Authority on 18 January 2013.

Kautex Maschinenbau is now represented on the international market with an office in Moscow. The new branch with a staff of five was inaugurated with an official ceremony in December 2011.

C3LS® - an alternative manufacturing method for LEV3 and PZEV capable plastic fuel tanks
As emission standards are becoming ever more stringent, tank fittings of plastic fuel tanks are increasingly relocated into the tank interior. A new manufacturing method in extrusion blow molding has now earned Kautex Maschinenbau GmbH (Bonn) the Dr. Reinold Hagen Award 2011.
For the ninth time already, the Dr. Reinold Hagen foundation (Bonn) has honored pioneering developments in blow molding engineering with its "Innovation in Blow Molding" award. This year's winner was announced on October 5, 2011 on the occasion of the "Blow Molding Engineering 2011" convention organized by the Association of German Engineers (VDI) in Baden Baden. An independent jury of members of the Blow Molding advisory board of the VDI Plastics Engineering department had selected the winner from a number of high-caliber submissions.
In plastic fuel tanks, the permeation of hydrocarbons through the wall is usually prevented by a special barrier layer as part of a 6-layer coextrusion process. However, if service openings or holes are created subsequently, the barrier layer will be destroyed. On the other hand, statutory requirements are becoming more and more demanding, for instance the US standards LEV III (Low Emission Vehicle) or PZEV (Partial Zero-Emissions Vehicle). Many efforts are thus focused on integrating the process of fitting interior tank components, such as the fuel pump, directly into the blow molding process.
As an alternative to known methods such as the various twin-sheet methods (TSBM, NGFS), the Ship-in-the-bottle (SIB) or Tank Advanced Process Technology (TAPT) processes, the experts at Kautex Maschinenbau have now developed a new method. In the so-called C3LS® blow molding process, the tubular parison is slit open in longitudinal direction at one point while it is being extruded and is unfolded. With the blow mold partly closed, components such as fuel pump, level indicator, anti-splash baffle, valves and venting conduits can now be introduced through the opening created in the parison into the interior of the pre-blown tank bladder.
Apart from lower costs of the blow mold, the new method also results in a more compact design of the machine. It can be combined with the tried and tested Kautex 6 layer coextrusion head technology and the known wall thickness control systems.
