Kautex Maschinenbau invited to their Open House 2006

Bonn-Holzlar, 02 October 2006 – The re-opening of the modernized and expanded “Technikum” at the Bonn-Holzlar site provided Kautex Maschinenbau GmbH with an opportunity to invite to its Open House 2006. On September 21, the company whose leading technology in extrusion blow molding machines places it among the industry’s best, opened its doors to welcome around 250 professionals from 25 countries. The visitors were able to see for themselves the superior features and strategic continuous developments demonstrated on 15 exhibits of tried-and-proven KEB, KCC, KBS, K3D, KBSH and KLS series machines. Machines were shown in various stages of assembly or dry cycling, while most were demonstrated in actual production. As in the past, the program was rounded off with technical papers presented in two workshops by Kautex Maschinenbau blow molding experts, raw material suppliers, Kautex’ customers and the Dr. Reinold Hagen Foundation.

This in-house exhibition was a continuation of the long tradition at Kautex Maschinenbau providing a professional and pleasant atmosphere for the experts in this sector to exchange information.

The focus in the assembly halls and the Technikum centered around 12 of the 15 machines used for blow molding of technical items and industrial bulk packaging. Five of the six KBS series machines were Coex or monolayer (with Selar) fuel tank machines. The sixth machine will be producing IBC and SH drums.

Six additional machines were designed for blow molding of low-flash, three-dimensionally bent pipes. A particular highlight in this sector was the K3D HP D compact dual-station horizontal machine with a 30 per cent reduced footprint and easily exchangeable blow molds as well as a KBSH machine (with electrically driven closing unit and hydraulic locking system) also for 3D articles. What makes the latter machine so special is a rapid, push-of-a button conversion from a monolayer accumulator-head (for processing high temperature materials) to a sequential co-extrusion head by using an electrically moveable extruder platform. The platform also permits quick mold change on this machine as the head can be aligned quickly and easily with the centerline of the closing unit. Two suction blow mold machines (SB 8 and SB 20) completed the 3D machine presentation.

For the packaging machine sector, Kautex Maschinenbau showed a tried-and-proven KEB machine with PWDS for 20-liter canisters as well as a model KCC 30 and a model KCC 20D, all of which can be used for certain technical articles.

The program of presentations was opened by Managing Director Dr. Olaf Weiland announcing Kautex Maschinenbau’s objective to considerably shorten lead times and to successively double the R&D budget by the year 2009. Managing Director Andreas Lichtenauer introduced the new Technikum and its new head, Markus Holbach. Markus Holbach comes from the Dr. Reinold Hagen Foundation and commenced his job on October 1, 2006. The new user interface “Kautex Control Easy” was presented by the Kautex experts Eberhard Seipel and Uwe Lüllwitz.

In the workshop on the topic of “Industrial Blowmolding” Massimiliano Sabini from the Italian ITIB S.p.A. reported on the production of 3D articles for the automotive industry on equipment made by Kautex Maschinenbau. The contents of the presentation by Michael C. Renaud from DuPont Nemours Inc. covered raw material developments for blow molding systems. Oleg Timonin from the Russian DSK Detalstroykonstruktsia talked about the successful conquest of the Russian market by Coex fuel tanks.

The “Workshop Packaging” held parallel to the industrial session was opened by Kautex Maschinenbau’s Thomas Berghöfer with a presentation on economic extrusion blow molding of packaging products. Patrick Lee from Sino-Asia Plastic Package (Zhongshan) Co. reported on the Chinese packaging market. Dieter Hülle from Kautex Maschinenbau demonstrated very clearly in his paper on IBCs, drums and canisters that multilayer is not just the domain of technical blow molding. The workshop was concluded with a presentation by Olaf Bruch from the Dr. Reinold Hagen Foundation on the simulation of processes in extrusion blow molding.

Almost 250 visitors to the Open House experienced once again an innovative Kautex Maschinenbau GmbH whose highly-motivated team is “stepping on the paddle” in order to continue its recent successes.
